Over the past 25 years I've worked with large and small companies on software for the Internet, Macintosh, Windows, Unix, Palm, and Super Computers. I love to teach and work one-on-one or with small groups for training. I'm also a Premiere Member of The Apple Consultants Network and an Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC), specializing in Apple Macintosh consulting, setup, and trouble shooting.
I view software development as a craft, where the best solution isn't simply one that works, but one that works well under many possible scenarios, and yet is still practical. I also consult with clients to bring their technology ideas to fruition and have a long line of experience analyzing, optimizing and improving existing software.
I usually have 5-10 projects on my "research workbench" at any point in time. In the past, some of these have become products and some remain experimental, waiting for use in future products.
At the core, I am a researcher, teacher, and a craftsman, applying two and a half decades of software development experience and an attention to detail. I have a strong intuitive sense and have long been recognized as an "idea person", able to learn a new discipline, pick up a project at any state, simplify existing solutions, and develop novel approaches to problems.
I graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BS in Computer Science from The University of Massachusetts, at Amherst and did several years of graduate work in Computer Architecture at UCLA (ABT).
When not working or researching,
I spend time with my wife and four sons and I'm active with The
Big Apple Chorus, a large a cappella Barbershop Harmony Ensemble. Over the
past year you might have seen or heard my quartet, Harmonious
Rex, on VH-1, CNBC, or on various NPR or WNYC programs. I also have a gold
medal from International Competition with The
Masters of Harmony.
