Shockwave Contest for AT&T, March 1997

In 1997, AT&T was working on a marketing campaign for it's collect call service. Working with Modem Media (the interactive division of True North) a web game / contest was proposed and the work of programming the software was sub-contracted to David Dantowitz.

A demo of the results are shown on this page. Web visitors were asked to "dial" 1-800-Call-ATT three times, as fast as they could. The fastest time each day was awarded a prize. The campaign ran a few times in 1997 and 1998. In addition to the Shockwave / web browser version of the game, a downloadable app was available for Mac and PC.

Paired with the Shockwave game I designed a matching script for AT&T's web servers to tabulate high scores (lowest times) via a secure authentication method. As reported in "Net Results: Web Marketing that Works", by Rick Bruner, AT&T registered almost a quarter million downloads and 10,000 contest entries.

Mac Users:
Note, to run with Safari in Snow Leopard (if you don't see the game), you must locate Safari in the Finder, use Command-I (Get Info) and enable "Open in 32-bit mode. (Firefox loads fine.)"
